Flanders
Flanders is the northern part of Belgium with Brussels as its capital. Not only is it the physical gateway to Europe, located less than 500 km from the main European capitals, but it also shares its capital city with the EU, NATO and numerous other international institutions and companies.
The Flemish Region has an area of 13,522 km2 and has 6.6 million inhabitants. In addition to a productive and highly skilled population and research and investment-friendly climate, Flanders has an extensive rail and road network, as well as a number of large seaports and airports.
Digital Flanders is a recently created agency of the Flemish government. It aims to be the partner and guide to all echelons of government for their ongoing (or forthcoming) digital transformation. Digitisation is already high on the agendas but the increasing demand for it is revealing the need for a more thorough digital transformation.
Digital transformation is about rethinking what exists and inventing new models and platforms. It is about much more than technology. How do we ensure an optimal user experience? How can we make government services as automatic as possible? How can we make the government work in a more data-driven manner? How can we realise "privacy by design" in a digital project? How do we involve stakeholders and how do we communicate about this project? How do we ensure that all citizens are involved? To make a digital transformation successful, one needs all these disciplines in a coordinated and regulated total approach.
That's why Digital Flanders offers a total package of solutions and works closely with all the authorities and stakeholders involved. By combining the possibilities of technology, the power of data, a sophisticated concern for security and privacy and a razor-sharp strategy, we make the government ready for the future and for its new role in tomorrow's society.
