Breaking the Silos on Local Innovation looks into two critical aspects within the public sector when it comes to the theme of innovation: how do we commission it and how do we host it?  

The course consists of two modules which aim to equip international city practitioners, commissioners, and decision makers with very practical training that can be applied independently within your local context. The course aims to provide you with new concepts and ideas from some of our experts in the field of local innovation.

Each module can be studied together or separately.

Module 1. Innovation Procurement: Why introducing innovation in the public sector isn’t as hard as you probably think!

Are you getting started on tackling the procurement problem?  

Ask pioneering place leaders what is stopping them from harnessing the creativity of the market to solve their pressing service and policy challenges and you will get the same answer: "Procurement policy doesn’t allow it." However, in our experience, the challenge lies less with the procurement policy itself than with popular perception of it. We explore some ideas on how to change procurement processes to solve this hurdle.
